Pokhara - a Paradise on Earth

In the beautiful mountain resort of Pokhara you will get life long memories teaching the various schools. These schools include both Nepali as well as Tibetan schools. The Volunteer is officially recognized by the Snow Lion Foundation (which is part of the Tibetan Government - In exile in Pokhara. 

The Pokhara valley has almost everything for rest and recreation from the majestic scenic beauty to more energetic pursuits like trekking and river rafting. The valley is also a shopper's paradise with a wide variety of artifacts and other essential needs. You will find that the prices are very competitive and in some cases you can bargain with traders. Pokhara is a photographer's dream as the valley, lakes and mountains are a doorstep - the Annapurna, Fishtail mountain (machhapuchre) and between India and Tibet. There is a gentle village atmosphere in Pokhara and the people are wonderfully hospitable. The climate is good for most of the year and the flora and fauna are beautiful too. Within Pokhara itself you can visit interesting bazaars, temples, caves, and Tibetan villages or just simply wander. Take a slow boat on the Lake Phewa or simply sit and take drink or meal in various bars and restaurants. For the more energetic there are nightclubs more in the Lakeside area. Kathmandu is only 200 km away and other places like Lumbini (Buddha's birthplace) and Gorkha are reasonably near. Kathmandu by air is 25 minutes away and takes about 6 hours by road.

Pokhara is known as lake city and is studded with seven famous lakes- Phewa, Begnas, Rupa being the most well known. Glacial river Seti, flows through the heart of valley. It goes completely underground at certain places. It cuts the deepest gorge in Nepal. Sarangkot command beautiful views of valley in the mountain. It is also vantage point to view sunrise and sunset over the majestic Himalayan Peaks. Mahendra Gufa, Davis fall, Gupteshwar Mahadev, Varahi Temple etc are other local sites to see.

Sunrise paragliding and flights on micro-light aircrafts and white water rafting and kayaking are the most popular adventures sports activities in Pokhara. The valley is the starting point of some of the popular treks in the country specially to Annapurna Himalayan Ranges.

Interest around Pokhara and Adventure Sports

1 Mankamana : One of the oldest temple is of Mankamana Devi with a great religious value. It is reachable by road from Pokhara in around 2 hrs. by road. Beautiful and excellent view of Trishuli river and the mountain ranges by cable car is there.


2 White water rafting and Kayaking :
One must experience the thrill of getting wet and riding over the waves of Trishuli river and reaching mankamana.

3 Jomsom and Muktinath: Ancient kingdom and forbidden land of Mustang presents strikingly contrasting landscape with vast, barren ridges, and ruggedly curved mountains with deep gorge of Kali Gandaki river in the valley.

It has a great sacred value for Hindus and Buddists as the river is known for Shaligrams and the difficult trekking of the Lord Muktinath ( Lord Vishnu) near Thorang-pass at 3810 meters height among the Himalayas. 20 min flight goes from Pokhara to Jhomsom airport and it passes through the deepest gorge of Kali Gandaki river in between the white Dhaulagiri ranges. Minimum 3-5 days are to be kept.

4. Chitwan National Park, Elephant safari and Tiger Camp: This is in Bharatpur, and the tour takes around 2days.

5. Lumbini : Lumbini is a religious site for Buddhist, as "Gautam Buddha" was born here in 623 B.C. It is listed in world’s heritage site and is situated near Sunauli border of India.

6. Janakpur Dham: It is situated in mid-eastern region of southern Nepal and is known as birth place of Goddess Sita.
